A staghorn sumac is starting its life with nine leafs. Just after a while the branches are getting longer a more of them are growing.
This young sproud has a length of about 2. All the ather branches You see in the picture are still in the nine-leaf-stadium even that they are a lot larger already. Ein Essigbaum beginnt sein Leben mit 9 Blättern. Erst nach einer Weile verlängern sich die Zweige und es bilden sich mehr. Dieser junge Trieb hier hat eine Länge von ca 2,5 cm. Amongst flowers it often happens, that the young sprouts rebel against their parents. You know how it goes, they close their blossoms far after sunset, open them only at lunch, don't clean up their nectar-rooms, dye their petals in wildest colors etc. The most unpleasant whippersnapper however denounce their origin. Why do I have grow up with my mother alone? Why is my father a bee? Who should even believe the tale of a real father and the sperm-messenger in shape of a bee?
Why is the mother welcoming so many gentlemen? Is she perhaps a hussy? And if anything, is every bee visit amicable? At some point every motherflower reaches her limits and pulls out the hardest disciplinary club of the plants' world: "If you don't stop, the Uprootyman will get you! He will seize you, wrest you away from the earth and will carry you to his dark realm, where the sun never shines!
Bei Blumen kommt es oft vor, dass sich die jungen Triebe gegen ihre Eltern auflehnen. Die unangenehmsten Jungspunde aber prangern ihre Herkunft an. Wieso müssen sie allein bei der Mutter aufwachsen? Wieso ist der Vater eine Biene? Warum hat die Mutter so oft Herrenbesuch? Ist sie etwa ein Flittchen? Und überhaupt, ist jeder Bienenbesuch einvernehmlich? Irgendwann kommt jede Mutterblume an ihre Grenze und packt die härteste Disziplinarkeule der Pflanzenwelt aus: "Wenn du nicht aufhörst, holt dich der Entwurzelmann!
